Guwahati: Paying tributes to revered nationalist icon Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, State chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma commented that the people of Assam will always remember his immense support to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi in saving the State from grouping during the partition of Bharat.

On Wednesday, CM Sarma said that Dr. Mookerjee made the ultimate sacrifice for the country while attending the Balidan Diwas ceremony at Tangara Satra in Guwahati. He will keep inspiring everyone for the process of nation-building, stated Sarma adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah realized his dream of ek bidhan, ek nisan, ek pradhan by removing Article 370.

Dr. Mookerjee, the first Union industry minister of independent Bharat, was found dead in a suspicious condition in the Jammu & Kashmir jail on June 23, 1953. Balidan Divas is held every year to commemorate his tremendous sacrifice for the country's unity and integrity.

At the age of 33, the founder of the BJP's predecessor, Bhartiya Jan Sangh, became vice-chancellor of Kolkata University and provided enormous support in increasing Assamese language education. Dr. Mookerjee also played a vital role in strengthening Bharat ties with Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Cambodia, and many other countries.

Sarma, in the presence of Dispur legislator Atul Bora and CM’s political secretary Jayanta Malla Baruah along with others, inspected the Satra premises after the program and urged the management committee to submit a proposal to the government for the construction of a namghar, a guest house, a paved pathway, a pond, and many more within one month. On another occasion, Sarma reviewed the Jal Jeevan mission and asked the concerned officials to put everything in place while implementing the project and making it a total success by 2024. He directed the mission director to enhance the required infrastructures and sensitize the personnel to help the target of fulfilling the essential pro-people mission.
