Three armed terrorists fired bullets on Rakesh Pandita when he was visiting his friend Mushtaq Bhat in Tral, his hometown.

Three armed terrorists shot dead the BJP leader in Kashmir and Municipal Councillor in Pulwama’s Tral Rakesh Pandita Wednesday.

Pandita was the chairman of the Tral Municipal Committee.

He was staying in government accommodation in Kashmir and was provided with two personal security officers.
He did not take along the security personnel while visiting his friend Mushtaq Bhat.

Bhat’s daughter was also injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, condoled the death of Pandita. He said, “Saddened to hear about the terror attack on the Councillor Shri Rakesh Pandita at Tral, Pulwama. I strongly condemn the attack. My condolences to bereaved family in this time of grief.”

e added “Terrorists will never succeed in their nefarious designs, and those responsible for such heinous acts shall be brought to justice.”

e is the third BJP councillor to be shot dead in Kashmir by terrorists.

On March 30 this year, terrorists had stormed the Sopore Municipal Council, killing two BJP councillors.

Mehbooba Mufti, former chief minister of erstwhile state of J&K tweeted, “Shocked to hear that BJP leader Rakesh Pandit has been shot dead by militants. These senseless acts of violence have brought only misery to J&K. My condolences to the family & may his soul rest in peace.”
