I saw senior Congress leaders like CP Joshi, Tarun Gogoi and others and Rahul Gandhi’s pet dog Pidi eating biscuits from the same plate. That day I told myself I can’t stay with this person anymore. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recalled his meetings with Rahul Gandhi.

He said, “This must be normal for everybody. This happens in all the meetings. That day I realised enough is enough and you can not stay with this person (read Rahul Gandhi) anymore.”

Recalling another meeting with the scion of the Nehru family, he said, “I was in a meeting with him for about 20 minutes. Every time I said something, he would say “so what?”. In a meeting of about 20 minutes, he said “so what?” 50 times.”

Himant Biswa Sarma took oath as the chief minister of Assam on May 10.

In August 2015, he left the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The BJP retained power in Assam in the just concluded assembly polls. The NDA has 74 seats in the house of 126.

Chief Minister Sarma was speaking to The Indian Express Opinion Editor Vandita Mishra in the Express e-Adda Wednesday.
