Smriti Irani-led Women & Child Development Ministry announced on Tuesday it would be setting up 10 One Stop Centres in nine countries to help women hit by violence.

These centres will operate in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs.

The first ten centres will open in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Canada, Kuwait, UAE and Australia.

The centres will provide legal aid, medical aid and counselling to women affected with violence in public as well as private spaces.

The funding for the project will be provided by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

There are currently 700 such centres already operational in the country. The ministry also plans to take this number beyond 1000.

One Stop Centres work as the nodal point for the concerned women.
