The Union government must consider the safety and future of students while deciding the Class 12 examinations, said the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in a memorandum submitted to the Union Education Minister Monday.
The Class 12 examinations could not be conducted in March this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nidhi Tripathi, National General Secretary ABVP, said, “The evaluation of Class 12 students acquires significance in light of the fact that admissions into various undergraduate programmes are based on the Merit List.”
She further added, “The Central Government as well as state governments must decide judicially taking into account the safety, health and academic prospects of students so that students don’t have to face problems in future.”
The ABVP also suggested alternative and innovative methods to consider for Class 12 examinations.
It said, “In view of the prevailing situation, novel modes of conducting the exams like short duration exam, open book examinations, exams for major subjects can be explored for conducting exams with physical distancing in coming July-August.”
It requested both the Central as well as state governments, not to take any decision in a haste.
For university students, it suggested the government should consider evaluation on a reduced syllabi.
It also requested for more vaccination centres on campuses so that more and more students could be vaccinated in the shortest possible time.
The government had already decided not to conduct exams for class 10 students.
