The Israeli Defence Forces have been only targeting locations that Hamas is using for operations against Israel.

On Saturday, it targeted one such building which has also housed news organisation Al Jazeera office in Gaza.

And before targeting any such place, IDF gives advance warnings so that no civilians are harmed in the operation.
On Saturday also, IDF gave an hour’s notice before targeting the building used by Hamas.

The Israeli authorities have been repeatedly pointing out how Hamas is using civilians as human shield.

The IDF said, “Hamas has turned residential areas in the Gaza Strip into military strongholds. It uses tall buildings in Gaza for multiple military purposes such as intelligence gathering, planning attacks, command and control, and communications.”
.
It further added, “The Israel Defense Forces struck a number of such buildings in recent days, but before we did so, we took steps to try and ensure that civilians would not be harmed.”

When Hamas bases its operations from any such building, as per the international law, it becomes a lawful military target.

The US President Joe Biden had earlier said that Israel had the right to defend itself.
