Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday admitted there had been political violence in the state. She also promised monetary compensation for the families of the dead.

In a press conference in Kolkata, she admitted 16 people had lost their lives in political violence since the results were declared on May 2.

She promised to provide a monetary compensation of INR 2 lakh each to the families of the dead.

She also promised her party would not discriminate while providing monetary compensation.

It is big coming from the chief minister herself because senior leaders of her party were trying to set the narrative that the stories of the political violence are fake news.

Senior TMC and MP Derek O’Brien threatened India Today Executive Editor Deep Halder for reporting on the political violence in the state.

Mahua Moitra, another party leader and Member of Parliament, had said that the news of political violence was spread by the BJP.
