Vanathi Srinivasan, National President of BJP’s Women’s Wing, Defeats Kamal Haasan in Tamil Nadu

Vanathi Srinivasan, national president of BJP’s women’s wing, defeated actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan by a margin of 1728 votes in the Coimbatore South seat of Tamil Nadu.

Makkal Needhi Maiam, a political party launched by Haasan in 2018, could not open its account.

A lawyer by profession, her association with the RSS goes back to her college days.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls in alliance with AIADMK, won four seats, its highest ever tally in the state.

The BJP had contested the polls in alliance with the AIADMK.

After ruling the state for two consecutive terms, the AIADMK lost power to the DMK.

The AIADMK got 70 seats with a vote share of 33.28 percent.

Srinivasan thanked the voters for their support. She tweeted, “We have won! Thank you Kovai South for your support & blessings. I bow down to my voters, to my leaders, PM @narendramodi ji, HM @AmitShah ji, Nat’l President @JPNadda ji, GS(O) @blsanthosh ji & all @BJP4TamilNadu karyakarta for their hard work & dedication.”
