The Uttarakhand government Thursday announced the suspension of Char Dham Yatra this year in view of the rising Covid-19 cases across the country.
The Char Dham includes Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, all in the Garhwal region in Uttarakhand.
The government was making preparations for the Yatra but it was cancelled at the very last moment for the safety of the devotees and others.
The SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) was almost ready.
The Kumbh in Haridwar was also cut short in view of the rising Covid-19 cases across the country.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat also announced that the priests would perform the rituals at all the four abodes.
The government would ensure that all the precautions are observed for the rituals.
The Uttarakhand government had made elaborate arrangements for the Kumbh in Haridwar. But after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to make it symbolic in view of the second wave of Covid-19, many Akharas announced the end of the Kumbh.
