The Supreme Court Thursday ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct an inquiry into the infamous 1994 ISRO espionage case.
The CBI has been asked to look into the role of three senior police officials from Kerala who are suspected to have framed charges against ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan.
Earlier the court had asked the Kerala government to provide INR 50 lakh as compensation to Shri Narayanan for suffering humiliation and torture at the hands of police officials for so many years.
In 1994, it was revealed that some ISRO scientists were selling country’s secret information about space technology and planning to foreign players.
The apex court had appointed a panel in September 2018 to look into the matter. The court has asked the CBI to treat Justice DK Jain panel report as preliminary in nature and take the investigation forward.
Shri Narayanan had moved the apex court against the Kerala High Court order that there was no need of any further investigation against the three senior police officials whose roles suspected in the case of illegal arrest of Shri Narayanan.
