To dent West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s fortress in Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may soon do a padyatra in the city.
Even in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP was not able to gain much traction in and around Kolkata. Although the party won 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
The party believes a padyatra by the prime minister will change the fortunes in its favour.
The last two phases will cover 71 seats for which voting is on April 26 and 29.
Kolkata is voting in the last two phases.
The BJP is also in the process of finalising a padyatra in Kolkata by the party National President J P Nadda.
The BJP is betting a lot in the state hoping it’ll be able to wrestle it from the Trinamool Congress.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is hopeful that Muslim votes will help her retain her seat in Kolkata.
She appealed to Muslim voters not to split their votes.
