A Bharatiya Janata Party worker’s wife was allegedly raped by Trinamool Congress’ workers Monday.
The incident happened in Tentul Bari area of Nandigram, a short distance from the place where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is staying in the constituency for campaigning.
Today is the last day of campaigning in the constituency as Nandigram will vote on April 1.
Suvendu Adhikari, erstwhile minister in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet, is the BJP candidate from Nandigram.
The husband, who is an active member of the BJP, was out for a political rally. When he returned home, he saw the wife unconscious in a drain behind his house.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned the incident. He told news agency ANI, “If a woman can be raped at a time when she is present in the area, how can women be safe and secure?”
