The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) prioritises the mitigation of the Assam flood in its manifesto, which was released on Tuesday in Guwahati ahead of the State legislative assembly elections scheduled for 27 March, 1 and 6 April.
BJP president JP Nadda, while unveiling the Sankalpa Patra with ten major commitments in presence of a number saffron political heavyweights including State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, promised to take scientific arrangements to deal with the perennial problem of flood under the Mission Brahmaputra to safeguard the lives, livelihoods and properties.
Preaching for an Atmanirbhar Asom, Nadda also assured the people of Assam that the government would detect all illegal infiltrators and protect the rights of genuine Indians through a corrected National Register of Citizens (NRC) under the apex court’s mandate.
Similarly, Nadda pledged to bring 30 lakh deserving families of the State under the coverage of Orunodoi scheme increasing the monthly sanction from rupees 830 to 3000, if voted to power by the electorates. He also informed that all Naamghars (traditional prayer halls) will be offered rupees 2.5 lakh each to improve the infrastructures and committed to recover Satra lands from encroachers.
In other promises, the saffron party includes free education to students in government schools, bicycles to all girls from class eight standard, create two lakh government jobs (and eight lakh in private sectors) in the next five years, generate two lakh entrepreneurs every year, land papers to all landless families, macro & micro planning to make Assam self-reliant in food productions. Nadda, also accompanied by Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Jitendra Singh, BJP’s Assam in-charge Jay Panda, State BJP president Ranjeet Dass, party’s general secretary Dilip Saikia, State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with other dignitaries, reiterated the saffron goal to safeguard the interest of indigenous people in Assam under the principle of Jaati, Maati, Bheti.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and defence minister Rajnath Singh addressing a rally in Lumding assured that the saffron party would preserve the identity of Assam and Assamese people. Singh appreciated the performance of Sonowal led State government in the last five years and expressed hope that the electorates would vote the saffron candidates for their convincing victories.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath also addressed a number of rallies in the State where the firebrand nationalist leader slammed the opposition Congress for forging an alliance with All India United Democratic Front and Left parties. He pointed out that the Congress rule is synonymous with anarchy, disputes, strikes, etc and it would
only encourage the divisive elements in the society. Meanwhile, a team of Election Commission of India (ECI) visited the Barak valley and took stock of election preparedness. The team visited some polling stations and joined in review meetings with the assigned observers. It emphasized conducting free, fair and safe elections in Assam.
