New Delhi: The space battle in social network has got a bolster after Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut announced her decision to quit Twitter and said she would be shifting to the Koo App.
She also tweeted requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to ‘forgive’ the microblogging site Twitter for ‘conspiring’ civil war in India.
“Honourable Prime Minister ji jo galti Great warrior Prithaviraj Chauhan ji ne ki thi woh bilkul mat karna …. uss galti ka naam tha maafi…@Twitter kitni bhi maafi mange bilkul maaf mat karna. They conspired for a civil war in India. #BanTwitterInIndia”.
However, there is a difference between Koo and Twitter as the desi IT tool offers services in various vernacular languages.
“Your Time is up “Twitter”, Time to Shift to “Koo App”, says Kangana. She also said that she would soon join homegrown App- “Koo App”.
The microblogging site Twitter in a blog posted that it has withheld some of the accounts flagged by the Government of India for blocking “within India only”, but has not blocked handles of civil society activists, politicians, and media as “it would violate their fundamental right to free expression” guaranteed under country’s law.
Ms Kangana also wrote: “They conspired for a civil war in India” and used #BanTwitterInIndia hashtag.
Kangana has not been an exception as there has been more than 3 million downloads in just 24 hours and Koo subscribers based shot up to one million.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal wrote: “I am now on Koo. Connect with me on this Indian micro-blogging platform for real-time, exciting and exclusive updates. Let us exchange our thoughts and ideas on Koo.”
The Union IT Ministry, India Post and the Niti Aayog are among the government departments to have an account on the Koo app.
In another tweet, Kangana Ranaut blasted Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and wrote, “Tumko banaya kisne hai Chief Justice? (Who has made you Chief Justice). At times you also gang up, then become a bully headmaster? Some times even the unelected member of the parliament. That’s not all at times you even pretend to be Prime Minister”.
She further wrote — “Who are you? Bunch of druggies trying to control us @jack.”
The desi (homegrown) social media Koo, which is often called the Indian version of microblogging site Twitter, has become the new tool of conversation.
Some prominent public leaders and union ministers have made their accounts on the Koo App.
The microblogging site was developed by entrepreneurs Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidwatka. Koo was launched in March 2020.
This newly launched social media tool stole the limelight after it won the Prime Minister’s Aatma Nirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge in August 2020.
