PM Modi greets Varanasi with ‘Har Har Mahadev’ chant and wishes Guru Nanak Gurpurab with ‘Jo Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal’.

The Prime Minister lit a lamp at Raj Ghat in Varanasi during the Dev Deepawali, a festival of light and fervour in Varanasi celebrated on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartik 15 days after Diwali. The stairs at the ghat have been decorated with flowers and a red carpet and artists have created rangolis and painted pots.

“On the occasion of Dev Deepawali, I pay my tributes to all those who have laid their lives for the nation. The nation is giving a befitting reply to the expansionist forces, those trying to infiltrate into India or be it those trying to break the country from within,” says PM Modi.

Earlier while addressing a public meeting, PM Modi tore into the opposition over the protests against the new farm laws. He said that the opposition is spreading rumours and tricking the farmers.

PM Modi continues his outreach to farmers, says new farm laws have given farmers freedom from middlemen, pointed out the advantages of the new laws, saying they are giving better access to markets — both national and international.

“After a lot of deliberation, the Indian Parliament gave agricultural reforms a legal recognition. These reforms have not only served to unshackle our farmers but also have given them new rights and opportunities. In just a short span of time, these new rights have begun to address the sufferings of our farmers,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi said the Opposition is “using tricks to oppose historic agriculture reforms laws and farmers are being misled”.

PM Modi said: “I know that decades of falsehood do put apprehensions in the minds of farmers, I want to say this from the bank of Mother Ganga – we are not working with the intention of deceiving. Our intentions are as holy as the water of river Ganga”.

“There’s a new trend now, earlier decisions of the government were opposed, now rumours have become the basis for opposition. Propaganda is spread that although a decision is fine, it can lead to other consequences, about things that haven’t happened or will never happen. Same is with farm laws,” PM Modi added.

While inaugurating the project, Prime Minister Modi said Varanasi is getting better infrastructure on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti and Dev Deepawali and this will benefit both Varanasi and Prayagraj.

At Varanasi, PM Modi inaugurated the widened Handia-Rajatalab section of National Highway 19. The 73-kilometre stretch of the newly widened and six-lane NH-19, built with a total outlay of Rs 2,447 crore, is expected to reduce the travel time between Allahabad and Varanasi by an hour.
