Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha state secretary Shri Nagaraj was hacked to death in full public gaze at Krishnagiri on November 22 morning. He was also the editor of a now-defunct monthly magazine Villangam (encumbrance).
A six-member car bone gang accosted him when the 45-year-old functionary went out for his usual morning walk on Sunday. Before Nagaraj could realise their intention, the gang started attacking him. When he tried to escape, the gang members chased and hacked him to death. The brutal incident happened in full public view on Sunday morning, at 8.30 am near his residence at Hanumanth Nagar in Hosur. A few days ago, while travelling on a motorbike, he was intercepted and attacked him with weapons by a group of assailants.
Local sources told Organiser that Nagaraj who suffered severe cut injuries on his head, legs, hands and abdomen, died on the spot. A passerby informed the police who took injured Nagaraj to a government hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead. His body was sent to Krishnagiri government hospital for autopsy. Nagaraj is survived by his wife Manjula, a son and three daughters. Hosur DSP Murali, inspector Balakrishnan and his team rushed to the spot to oversee the probe.
Superintendent of Police Bandi Gangadhar said that a special team was formed to nab the killers. He said the reason behind the murder was not known. Police are probing in all angles, including political or religious or business rivalry angle. A sniffer dog, which was pressed into service, remained clueless after running for a short distance. The Hosur police have registered a case, and further investigations are on. So far, no arrests have been made. BJP leaders staged protests demanding arrests of assailants.
It is to be remembered that the Organiser had reported a similar incident in September this year when a BJP youth wing functionary Ranganathan was hacked to death Kelamangalam in Krishnagiri district.
