The Central Working President of VHP, Advocate shri Alok Kumar said that Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was a Yug Purush who fought against untouchability, casteism and social discrimination. The Vishva Hindu Parishad celebrated his birth anniversary (14 April) by honouring the COVID-19 sanitation warriors by distributing safety masks, hand gloves & sanitizers, following the government guidelines.

He said that this time round, on the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb, big and elaborate programs like garlanding his statues, Kumbh Mela at Parliament Street, etc., were not possible due to the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic, but still the Corona terror could not stop the countrymen from paying homage to the great man.

He appealed to the countrymen that while staying at home, observing the lockdown and anti-corona guidelines and protocols, all of us should sit before a picture of Baba Saheb, listen to inspiring themes from his life and times, and reiterate the vow to re-build a Samaras (harmonious) society. “Today our sanitation workers are acting like warriors in the war against the Coronavirus pandemic. By honouring them, we shall pay our true tributes to Baba Saheb.”, he said.

Remembering Baba Saheb, Shri Alok Kumar said that he had suffered from the brunt of casteism and deprivation since his childhood. Despite these humiliations, without any bitterness in his mind and heart, he fought throughout his life to build a harmonious society. Dr. Ambedkar was an outstanding warrior of ‘social justice’. He had said that if self-refinement, grace and dignity are attained by being free from untouchability, then not only will the Dalit society itself progress, but its chivalry and wisdom prove to be a factor for the country’s progress, shri Kumar added.

In the concluding meeting of the Constituent Assembly, Baba Saheb had said that political equality had come through the Constitution, but we would have to convert political democracy into social democracy as well! We must now again have a society that is free from untouchability and upholds and celebrates justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. This work of Baba Saheb is still pending, said Alok Kumar.

On his birth anniversary, the Vishva Hindu Parishad will re-dedicates itself to continue working on these goals, said the VHP press release.
