Uthishta Seva Puraskar 2020 conferred on Sevabharathi Kanyadi for exemplery service of Divyang and other marginalized sections

The 6th Uthishta Seva Puraskar 2020 has been awarded to Sevabharathi Kanyadi near Dharmasthala in Dakshin Kannada in Karnataka in recognition of its social service to the marginalized segment of the population of Belthangady Taluk. Belthangady is a remote taluk in Dakshina Kannada District.
 
‘Sevabharathi Kanyadi’, conceptualized in 2004, has been actively engaged in social work and community services during the last 16 years in the field of health, education, agriculture, empowerment of rural women by self- employment, inculcating moral values and Indian culture among children, Helping specially-abled children and rehabilitation of persons affected with spinal cord injury. They have various projects working in different spheres aimed at alleviating different sections of the society. They are:
 
1. ArogyaBharathi : Organizing blood donation camp & create awareness in society.
2. Balabharathi : Coaching children for personality & skill development.
3. Yakshabharathi: Promotion & encouragement of yakshagana.
4. Shri DurgaMathruMandali : Empowerment of rural women in rural areas.
5. Sevadhama : Rehabilitation centre for Spinal Cord Injured.

Sevabharathi Kanyadi has established a facility to support people with spinal cord injuries.
 
Uthishta learnt about the Sevadhama activities where Sevabharathi Kanyadi has established a facility to support people with spinal cord injuries with a 10 bed rehabilitation facility and empowers the inmates with life skills and enable to lead a life with dignity. They also provide wheel chairs and calipers and help them in modifying their houses to support their movement by building ramps.
 
About Uthishta Seva Puraskar
 
Uthishta Seva Puraskar is an award constituted by Uthishta, a social service and charitable trust formed in the year 2006, and is designed to appreciate and support charitable organizations which are working relentlessly in their own ways to uplift the weaker sections of the society but without any visibility or adequate support. The award consists of a shield, a citation and a monetary support of rupees one lakh.
 
Every year Uthishta invites nominations for Uthishta Seva Puraskar. The selection of the awardee is decided by a committee that includes Uthishta Core Group and other eminent persons from the society. The award is usually presented to the selected organization at a grand function held at Bangalore.
 
Earlier awardess of Uthishta Seva Puraskar include Sree Parvathi Seva Nilayam Trust, Thrissur, Kerala, Sukrutham Charitable Trust Kottayam Kerala, Santhwanam Seva kendram, Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission and Agasthyar Bala Samskara Kendra. Each of the awardees have done great social service in various sphere of society aiming to uplift the marginalized and the needy.
