In the name of anti-CAA protests, Pan-Islamic supremacist mindset is being nurtured
Whether it is the boycott of Hindus in Mallapuram, hounding of doctors only because they supported CAA, Azadi slogans and highlighting Islamic supremacy, all smack of the return of the Khilafat Movement. It has to be nipped in the bud before it escalates further and disturbs the societal harmony
As the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 dies downs under own weight of a body of lies built on unfounded fears, illogical arguments and incoherent reasoning, some elements out to disturb the very fabric of the country are targeting anyone who supports the CAA or PM Modi’s Government. A look at several instances give credence to the fact that such targeting is well organised and aided by anti-national elements.
Water Supply to Hindus Stopped in Malappuram
Malappuram has been a Muslim majority district for many decades with more than 72% of the population following Islam. It was here that during the Moplah riots of 1921 which was in support of the Khilafat Movement, more than 10,000 Hindus were massacred. Almost a century later, the Muslims of Malappuram seem to be returning to the Khilafat era using CAA as the peg to hang their outrage.
On January 22, it came to notice that the water supply to a colony of the minority Hindus was stopped. Residents of a colony at Kuttipuram in Malappuram district had to face this cruelty for supporting the CAA. A person living near the colony used to provide drinking water for the Hindu colony. However, as protests against CAA increased, Hindus did not join the protests and hence were denied water, say local reports.
When Seva Bharati heard about the injustice done to the residents, volunteers of Seva Bharati stepped in to provide drinking water to the households of the colony. Water was delivered using tankers and water canisters.
There is widespread anger for blocking the primary source of life for these Hindu residents only because they supported CAA. Likewise, there have been efforts made to shut down shops run by Hindus and anyone supporting the CAA by the Muslims in the area.
Earlier, Muslim merchants had decided not to sell anything to Hindu customers in Ekarool, Kozhikode, Kerala. Local RSS unit had then stepped forward and opened a store for Hindus to buy necessary items. There were reports that Muslim vendors were also not selling goods to Hindu businesses in an apparent message of boycotting the Hindu community.
Even Serving Doctors Not Spared
Among several accounts of professionals being hounded by Jihadis for supporting CAA, we recount at least three cases where even doctors who serve people irrespective of religion have been targeted by the same mob.
Few weeks ago, Dr Ajith Sreedharan who was serving at Nazeem Health Care in Doha, Qatar was forced to quit his post and leave the country based on false charges. He narrated his ordeal in a Facebook post. In his post, he wrote that the aim of the anti-CAA protests was to bring down Narendra Modi’s Government. He added that the easy way to do it is to incite one community to commit violence and create anarchy in the country.
While there was no communal angle in his Facebook post, online Jihadis spread false news that his post hurts Islam and their religious feelings. This forced the authorities of his clinic to ask for his resignation. It is said that there is also a threat to Ajith’s life when he returns to Kerala as Islamic fanatics have threatened that they will attack the doctor once he returns to his home in Kerala. It has been reported that many Jihadis have enquired about the exact location of the doctor’s house.
In another case reported last week, Dr Ranjit Vijayahari, a Gastro-enterologist who runs a clinic in Trivandrum was targeted by Jihadis for his views on CAA and his association with RSS. The doctor narrated his experience on Twitter last week which was reported by Organiser. He tweeted that he had served people of all religions as a member of Seva Bharati but now his practice is being targeted by Jihadi elements for supporting CAA.
In a series of tweets, Dr Ranjit narrated how an organised group of Jihadi Muslims has been requesting others from their community not to avail his services as he is ‘a communal doctor’.
Dr Vyas Vishwanathan, a Emergency and Critical care doctor from Palakkad is the victim of the online lynch mob of Jihadis. Dr Vyas was serving at a hospital in Palakkad in a important role as the hospital was already short of staff. His work was lauded by both the hospital and the patients, irrespective of religion. Yet, his support for CAA and Modi Government was his undoing. Ever since he started to express his support for the CAA, this online lynch mob of Jihadi Muslims started to target him.
His tweets were taken out of context, false claims were made about him and his work and reported to the hospital management. When the reports started coming regularly, the hospital management chickened out and asked him to resign. He was forced to move out when he was attending to patients in the ICU. After exiting the hospital, he left the city with his possessions as his colleagues and patients were shocked to hear about his sudden exit.
Dr Ranjit and Dr Vyas both indicated that one Muhammad Shaffi is the ring leader of this group who is instigating people not to avail services of ‘Sanghi doctors’ by making false allegations against them. Shaffi himself is a Health Management Official as per his Facebook account which is full of anti-Modi and anti-BJP posts. His hatred of RSS is also evident from his posts. His posts against Dr Ranjit and the way the doctors were targeted reeks of organised syndicate that exists in the state to target anyone associated with the RSS and inspired organisations.
There were reports earlier too that Jihadi forces are who targeting Hindus working in Gulf support CAA. There is a conspiracy to oust these Hindus from their jobs in the Gulf countries and to destroy their
businesses.
Anti-CAA or Anti-Hindu?
Apart from the targeted and personal hounding of those who supported CAA, the anti-CAA protests reeks of anti-National and specifically anti-Hindu rhetoric. In the name of ‘saving’ Constitution and democracy, the anti-CAA protesters have made their true intentions public through their slogans and placards.
In an anti-CAA protest rally that took place in Bhubaneswar, Odisha last month, ‘Kaafiron se azadi slogans’ were chanted by the mob. It is well known that Kaafir is a derogatory reference to non-Muslims. As per Quran, Kaafirs are hated by Allah and they should be mocked at as they do not believe in the existence of Allah.
On December 20, 2019 OdishaPost shared a video of the Bhubaneshwar protest where a protester dressed in gray jacket could be heard shouting, “Hum le ke rahenge aazadi, in Kaafiron se aazadi (we will take freedom, from these kaafirs).” As he chanted these slogans, no one came forward to stop him as seen in the video.
In another instance of anti-National nature of the CAA protests, slogans that indicated towards another partition were raised at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi. The video from the protest side which was shared on social media on Jan 10th, showed a mob raising “Hum ladke lenge Azadi. Nehru wali Azadi. Gandhi wali Azadi. Bhagat wali Azadi. Ashfaq wali Azadi. Jinnah wali Azadi. Dilli wali Azadi….”.
While one understands eulogising Nehru and opposing PM Modi, raising ‘Jinnah wali Azadi’ conveys that the protesters are essentially saying that they believe that Hindus and Muslims are separate nations as advocated and implemented by Jinnah and the Muslim League.
It is timely to remember that in 2018, a clash had erupted in AMU which was founded by Jinnah over the divisive leaders portrait. Muslim students wanted the portrait of Pakistan’s founder in the campus. Few students opposed and staged a protest against University authorities for placing the divisive leader’s portrait. Those protesting were violently attacked and the protest was subdued by brute force. The AMU Students Union dominated by Muslim students was in support of Jinnah.
Islamic Supremacist Nature of CAA protests
In December 2019, protests against CAA turned violent when students of Jamia Milia Islamia had vandalised public property, pelted stones and attacked police.
On December 13th, after the Friday prayers a mob of Jamia students protested against the CAA which actually revealed the true nature of the anti-CAA protests. As they resorted to mob violence and stone pelting, Islamic slogans “Allah-o-Akbar”, ‘Nara-e-Taqbeer’ were raised during their protests. From the videos of the protests, one can hear slogans like “Ye shahar zagmagaega, nur-e-la-illaha se, Ye desh zagmagaega, nur-e-la-ilaha se.
Nara-e-takbir, Allahu Akbar”, being raised openly.
Even the speeches made during the anti-CAA protests belie its true nature. Many speakers made communal and provocative statements by claiming that ‘those who want to protect Muslims will have to protect Islam’. There were also several provocative statements that demanded Muslims to take to the streets. Their speeches were followed by a worrying slogan, “tera mera rishta kya, La ilahi illilah”.
Similar slogans were raised in protests in West Bengal where Mamata Banerjee’s police showed no intent to stem the Islamic nature of the anti-CAA protests.
It can be recalled that in October 2019, Palestine flags were raised at Jamia Millia Islamia by students who were protesting an event which was held with Israeli collaboration. The event was a technical event and had nothing to do with religion or country. But the university capitulated and withdrew the event and also promised that no Israeli delegate will be allowed in the university henceforth.
Fight for Khilafat via CAA
Boycotting Hindu businesses, stopping supply of water for Hindu colony, targeting professionals supporting CAA, anti-India and Jihadist slogans belie the true intent of the so-called protests against CAA.
Despite these recent incidents of intolerance against anyone supporting CAA, being associated with RSS or expressing their views against violent protests, none of the liberals and FoE activists have spoken against such behaviour or come in aid of the victims.
Political parties opposed to PM Modi see this as an opportunity to pin him down. Hence, it seems all that matters now is emboldening the Jihadis for another Khilafat as the ‘seculars’ did in 1921.
