The Supreme Court has granted bail to senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media scam. A three-judge bench, headed by Justice R Banumathi, granted him bail on a personal bond of two lakh rupees with two sureties of the like amount and other stringent conditions.

As per the court order, Chidambaram cannot leave the country without prior permission of the court and neither try to influence the witnesses nor tamper with evidence. The court also restrained Chidambaram from giving any press interview or making any statements with regard to the case.

The Supreme Court set aside the verdict of Delhi High Court, pronounced on November 15, denying bail to the former Union Finance Minister, who has been in custody for 105 days. He has been in the custody since August 21, when he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the INX Media case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Chidambaram on October 16 in the money-laundering case. Following the arrest, Chidambaram has been lodged in Tihar jail.
