New Delhi, Sept 12: Supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A (which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir), Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, the largest Muslim organisation in India has said that Kashmir is an integral part of the country and the welfare of the people in Kashmir lies in getting integrated with India.

The annual general meeting of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, under the presidentship of Maulana Qari Syed Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri was held here today in which more than 3,000 members of the organisation from across the country participated. Several resolutions including supporting abrogation of 370, 35A were passed in the meeting.

Attacking Pakistan saying that inimical forces and the “neighbouring country” are bent on destroying Jammu and Kashmir by using the people as a shield, Maulana Niaz Ahmed Farooqui, Secretary, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Halal Trust told Organiser, “Kashmir is an integral part of the country. It is our firm belief that the welfare of Kashmir lies in getting integrated with India.”

“The enemy (Pakistan) has made Kashmir a battlefield using Kashmiris as a shield which makes it the biggest huddle in rescuing the people from the impasse,” Farooqui added.

In the wake of Pakistan’s police to build a narrative that Jammu and Kashmir is a global Islamic issue, Maulana Qari Syed Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri, President, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, told Organiser, “Pakistan is trying to project on the international forum that India Muslims are against India, we condemn this act of Pakistan.”

“The government should restore normalcy in the region using every possible constitutional means as soon as possible,” he added.

Condemning separatists who have repeatedly accused India of illegally annexing Kashmir, Farooqui said, “Jamiat can never support any separatist movement. It considers such movements not only harmful for India but also for the people of Kashmir.”

It may be recalled that the Modi government had passed a resolution to abrogate the Articles with the help of a Presidential order on August 5, with both the houses of the Indian Parliament voting in favour of the resolution.

As the abrogation took place, there were allegations expressed that the Modi government had done it in a hurry, not consulting the stakeholders and moreover, with no state assembly present.

Now, more than a month since the abrogation, the state is limping back to normalcy, with communication lines being restored and investment meets being held to generate more jobs in the region.

Last week, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind head Maulana Syed Arshad Madani had met RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and they discussed a host of issues including strengthening unity between Hindus and Muslims and incidents of mob lynching.

On the other hand, Pakistan had approached the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), complaining about India’s move, but many countries had supported India on its move. India has always maintained that abrogation is an internal matter of the country.
