INDIAN NAVY COMMISSIONS DORNIER SQUADRON AT CHENNAI

On July 22, 2019, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, commissioned into the Indian Navy the fifth Dornier aircraft squadron—INAS 313 at Naval Air Enclave, Meenambakkam. Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command along with other dignitaries were also present during the ceremony. Addressing the gathering Admiral Karambir Singh said, “Commissioning of INAS 313 marks yet another milestone in our efforts towards enhancing maritime security and safeguarding our nation’s maritime interests”. He added that the strategic location of the squadron would provide India the dominance over North Eastern part of the Indian Ocean which also consists of trade routes. Navy is procuring 12 new Dornier aircraft from HAL with improved sensors and equipment including glass cockpit, advanced surveillance radar, Electronic Intelligence, optical sensors and networking features.
