Techies Run for Girl Child

Hyderabad: Around 8000 persons working in about 50 top IT companies of Telangana joined “Run for a Girl Child” on January 21. The Run was organised by Sewa Bharati Telangana. It was held in three three categories—21K, 10K and 5K at GMC Balayogi Sports Stadium. About 500 armymen also took part in the Run and won prizes in most of the categories.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Developemnt and Ganga Rejuvenation, Parliamentary Affairs Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal flagged off the 5K Run and also walked the entire 5K stretch. The 21K Run was flagged off by Commanding Officer at Station Workshop in Secunderabad Col. Vijay Joshi. He participated in the 10K Run. Gymnast and Commonwealth Games medal winner Meghna Reddy was also present. The 10K Run was flagged off by Commissioner of Police Shri VC Sajjanar and Vice Chancellor of HCU Prof Apparao.
Prizes were given away to the winners by Principal Secretary of the Government of Telangana Shri Jayesh Ranjan and president of Seva Bharathi Shri Durga Reddy. The first three positions under 21K category went to Shri Rajender Singh, Shri Praveen and Shri Sony Singh from the Army. The first three positions under 10K category went to Prem Kunj, Yogesh and Krishna from the Army. In the 5K adults category, the medal winners are Kishore Reddy, Saraswati Rai and Supriya. Under 5K kids category, the medal winners are Roshan, Trishna and Arunima.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion Seva Bharathi general secretary Shri Ramamurthy Prabhala said the prime objective of the Run is to empower 10,000 girls in next two years by starting 500 Kishori Vikas centres in Hyderabad and Secundarabad.
