Prof. Jagdish Mukhi

I am deeply hurt to hear the demise of Madan Lal Khurana ji, a towering personality and a powerful voice, who had played crucial roles on the political developments. In his death, the country in general and Delhi and BJP in particular lost an eminent leader and a prudent politician. The country lost a social worker and a true humanitarian whose actions developed the society as a whole. As a politician he contributed immensely to the general welfare of the people at large. He had deep faith in ideology and worked resolutely for the humanity. He served Delhi with deep commitment, compassion and love for the people. His only agenda was all round development of Delhi.

Former Delhi chief minister and BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana passed away in the national capital after a prolonged illness. Khurana seen here with Atal Bihari Vajpayee

His sagacity and leadership as former Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi has been a source of inspiration and guidance. During his tenure as Chief Minister he showcased strong leadership and took several decisions with far reaching and positive impact on the people. He was the backbone of Bharatiya Janata Party.

I had a long association with Khurana ji, the stalwart of politics. I had turned to the veteran leader on many occasions for his advice on important issues and the response was always pragmatic. Reminiscing my personal rapport with him, when I was the Finance Minister of Delhi, Khurana ji was the Chief Minister and we shared many thoughts on several issues. Even during his period as Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism and as Governor of Rajasthan he had guided me on various matters. On his demise, I have lost a philosopher and guide. Though no words will be sufficient to express my grief on his death, I whole-heartedly pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of Madan Lal ji. His wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts.
(The writer is Governor of Assam and was the Minister of Finance in Madan Lal Khurana led government in Delhi)
