BJP and ABVP took on the streets in Bengal to protest against the merciless killing of two Dalit students. However, the insensitive dismissal of the Mamata Government came as a shocking response
ABVP organised a huge rally on September 25, 2018. Police mercilessly attacked the students. Police tortured women members of ABVP participated in the rally. A large number of ABVP activists were arrested. Ashis Chouhan, National General Secretary of ABVP, was among the arrested.

BJP called for a general strike on September 26. Firad Hakim, Minister of Urban Development, threatened the BJP activists to kill them like ants. Firad described his assembly constituency as Mini Pakistan to Dawn, Islamabad in the year 2016. His father had migrated from Kishangang, Bihar and used to labour at Kolkata port. Urdu speaking Muslims are presently governing the administration in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress goons followed the instruction of their leader. BJP activists were organising peaceful picketing at Barasat Railway crossing in the morning. A group of TMC hooligans attacked them, Md Asdaurjamman, Sabhadhipati of local Panchayat Samity was among the hooligans. They brutally tortured the men and women supporters of BJP.
Why Urdu teacher recruitment became so important? Why could the decision of organising committee not stand? According to the sources Goyalpokhor MLA Golam Rabbani agreed to recruit two teachers in Sanskrit and two in Urdu. On the other hand, Kanailal Agarwal, Islampur MLA, did not support the decision. It became the basic contradiction between them. The Intelligence source has provided supportive information that police first targeted agitated students and people those who were present.Intelligence Branch (IB) has come out with a report stating that Darivit students death is an outcome of cold-war of two Trinamool MLA. As the factional feud within TMC became a regular incident in North Dinajpur, simultaneously ‘tussle’ between Islampur MLA and Rabbani gained its persistent.

The attack on the rally of BJYM was deadly. Police was accompanied by armed local TMC goons. They tortured the youth activists. Debjit Sarkar, state president of BJYM, was bitten in black and blue. A large number of BJYM activists were arrested from Esplanade are an of central Kolkata.
Two years and eight months later after the suicide of Rohit Vemula became a national rage, another incident takes place. Two bright students from Bengal’s Islampur, belonging to a Dalit family were allegedly killed in police firing while they protested the lopsided recruitment policy of their institution. Students of Darivit High School wanted teachers for Bangla, physics and chemistry. What they got instead was an Urdu teacher. Shocked at the Government move, the students blocked the entry of Urdu teachers to the campus. One wonders why political parties like Congress, AAP, and the Left have not shown any engagement, forget anger, in this case. Surprisingly, the “mainstream media” that had organised hundreds of debates over the suicide of Rohith Vemula by terming it an institutional murder has kept mum over this killing.

Both ABVP and BJP Mahila Morcha would start Dharna in front of the statue of Subhash Chandra Bose at Shyambazar from September 28. Despite brutal torture, common people extended their support in every form of protest against the murder of the Dalit students in Police firing at Islampur. Following demands crept in the mind of common people in West Bengal- CBI or Judicial enquiry of Police firing at Islampur, Compensation for the family members of the two demised Dalit students and Proper enquiry under the guidance of National Scheduled Caste Commission.
