Photo Exhibition at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Art to pay tribute to the architect of modern Ladakh, Kushok Bakula

New Delhi: Eminent Buddhist saint who is also known as the modern architect of Ladakh, Kushok Bakula Rinpoche is being remembered all over the country as part of his birth centenary celebration. A photo  exhibition based on his life was organised at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Art (IGNCA)  on December 20. The exhibition, organised by East Asia Programme Unit of the IGNCA, will continue till December 31 at Building No 5-A from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm all day open.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju in the  presence of Ambassador of Mongolia to India Shri Gonchig Ganbold, expert on Jammu & Kashmir and also RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sah Sampark Pramukh Shri Arun Kumar, Shri Lama Lobzang from Ashoka Mission, Director of Tibet House Shri Geshe Dorji Damdul, Special Re-preventative of the Dalai Lama Shri Tenpa Tsering, Member of Parliament, from Ladakh Shri Thapstan  Chhewang, and Member Secretary of the IGNCA Dr Sachchidanand Joshi.
Inaugurating the exhibition Shri Rijiju said, “The late Bakula Rinpoche was a monk-activist and helped in the cause of peace and spreading the teaching of Lord Buddha in different parts of the world. He was associated with many national and international organisations working for world peace,  environmental conservation and inter-faith dialogue. His role was pivotal in reigniting the light of Dharma among people in different countries who were denied their spiritual  freedom by authoritarian communist regimes. His contributions in the revival of Buddhism in many countries including Mongolia, Russia and China speak volumes of his great personality. He was a great philosopher and political guru. I would need to learn a lot from him, whenever I go to Mongolia, I will definitely go there to see his works. He received Mongolia”s biggest reward which is a matter of respect for all Indians.”
Shri Sonam Wanchu said: “Revered Bakula is known as ‘the architect of Modern Ladakh’. Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee had said without Bakula Rinpoche we cannot imagine Ladakh. The RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat recalled his stellar contribution to India. He said Acharya Bakula manifested the same national vision of Bharat towards global humanity through his personal and social conduct which Swami Vivekananda had declared in his Chicago speech.”
Shri Arun Kumar said Rimpoche ji was a spiritual figure and great social reformer. The kinds of people who are gathered in this programme today are proof of their contribution to this country and society.
Dr Sachchidanand Joshi while recalling the works of Rimpoche, said the IGNCA is expressing its  tributes to the work done by him through this exhibition, we are
planning to bring his work through this exhibition to the masses across the country.”
