350th Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh :The Legacy of Dharmayuddha

The 350th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj is being celebrated all over the world. His contribution as a spiritual leader and great warrior-organiser is well known and widely discussed. But his role in reconstructing Bharat as a nation was much more than that. He realised the need for awakening the society on the basis of cultural rejuvenation and organisation building. The situation then was odd. While the oppressive and fundamentalist rule of Auragazeb was going on from Delhi, the Hindu society was engulfed in the clutches of caste, customs, rituals and superstitions. Though Bhakti movement had created the basis for national awakening, by and large the dependence on political power for security was on the rise.
Changing this perception, Guru Gobind Singh called for a dharmayuddha for awakening the masses. He not only provided the strength of armoury through Khalsa Panth, but also prepared a grand plan for socio-psychological and spiritual reconstruction of the society. His message of self-sacrifice and fight for the Divine cause was meant for all. His literary creations and interpretations of ancient texts with new characters were also part of this exercise. His message of social harmony by declaring the five young men from different castes and regions and offering nectar to all the followers from the same utensil was very clearly meant for ending social discrimination.
