A delegation of BJP MPs visited  the red terror-affected Kannur and called on Smt Renu, a Dalit activist who was attacked by CPM goons, at the hospital

T Satisan, Kochi

CPM has made it a point to encourage and operate atrocities against women and Dalits since they came to power three months back. Organiser itself has carried several reports’ in this regard for the last few months. The story of the imprisonment of Akhila and Anjana and the one and half year old daughter of the former, attack on Dalit woman Puthuvayal Omana and her sons Mahesh and Dhanesh and their friend Kannan in Alappuzha, suicide attempt by the Dalit girl of RLV Fine Arts College, Kochi, due to the atrocities unleashed by SFI goons, etc. are the few examples of the stories carried by this weekly since Pinarayi Vijayan’s CPM-led LDF took over. Now, the latest victims are Smt Renu Suresh, a Dalit activist and the Kerala state president of Bharatiya Mahila Morcha, her  husband Suresh and sons Akshay Suresh and Pranav Suresh, both college students, in Perumbavoor near Kochi.
Renu and family were travelling in an auto rickshaw on their way to purchase Onakkoti, the traditional new garments Keralites buy in connection with Onam celebrations, on the eve of the Onam, that is September 13, 2016. Suddenly a car hit the auto rickshaw driven by Suresh, a driver by profession. Fortunately, the passengers escaped unhurt, thanks to the excellent driving skills of Suresh. But, the driver and passengers of the car came out and beat Suresh, Renu and children with sticks and other tools. After being brutally injured in the attack, they were hospitalised by the passers-by. Renu suffers from a deep head injury and still unable to walk. Suresh and sons, even though discharged still suffer from severe pain all over the body. Renu now undergoes physiotherapy.
Renu told Organiser that she does not know how long she would have to undergo treatment. Unfortunately, police still play second fiddle to the ‘political masters’ as the culprits are CPM and CPI men. She added that two men already arrested. One of them is remanded. The police have registered the case for atrocities under The SC and the ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and IPC 364.
Answering a query from the weekly, Renu Suresh said that the attack was politically motivated and the assailants belong to LDF. The reason is simple: She contested the co-operative society election against LDF candidate and secured 750 votes while the winner’s tally was 1000. So, they saw a potential challenge in her. She has been always busy with several social activities. Until last year she was the state secretary of the State SC Morcha of BJP. Now, the LDF sees a potential enemy in her. Now, she is the state president of the Bharatiya Mahila Morcha and contested the recently concluded assembly election as a BJP candidate.
Unfortunately, under the Pinarayi Vijayan regime women and Dalits do not get any justice. Now, the delegation of BJP MPs visited Renu in her hospital room.  They were in the state to carry out their enquiries into the murder politics launched by CPM in Kannur District. The BJP team demanded that the state government constitute an independent inquiry committee led by a sitting High Court judge to inquire into the violent incidents took place in Kannur District since Pinarayi Vijayan took over as the CM. The BJP team comprised of Meenakshi Lekhi, Ananth Kumar Hegde, Nalin Kumar Kateel and party leader H Raja. State president Kummanam Rajasekharan was also there. They submitted a memorandum before the State Governor P Sathasivam. They also met Home Secretary Nalini Netto.
Renu is a leader with versatile qualities. Renu’s two books have already been published. Now two books are in the pipeline. Now, it is clear that CPM is absolutely determined to play the killer politics against their
political opponents, women, Dalits and children. They misuse the power to satiate their political ambitions in the state. If they stick on to this dirty modus operandi, the state is going to miss the peaceful sleep. It is high time the sane CPM leaders realise it and do the needful at the earliest.
