Organiser spoke to a  retired senior police officer. He says, on condition of anonymity, co-operative institutions run by CPM men are the havens of corruption in Kannur District.  Most of them are manned by women; but they are safe shelters for the CPM men involved in physical attacks against Sangh parivar men.  The retired officer added that even during the regime of Congress-led UDF, CPM men were spared, thanks to the corruption and ‘co-operative attitude’ of some ministers;  if this corruption is exposed the CPM's reputation will be demolished before the poor. If the intelligent agencies take concerted efforts all sorts of manipulations of the party and its leaders can be unearthed. Several leaders who entered politics sans having any comfortable financial background have turned pretty rich over years; these aspects should be looked into.
The retired officer opined, even though CPM is considered to be the party of revenge, they take their revenge only when Sangh parivar is on the other side; otherwise they go for verbal protests. During the last couple of decades at least three CPM workers have been killed allegedly by some Islamic fundamentalist outfits; but, party kept quite; they tell the rank and file that if they retaliate, RSS will exploit the situation. The officer stated, reports from Malappuram suggest that Marakkara Panchayath is ruled by  an alliance of some Islamic outfits, Congress and CPM. State level UDF partner Indian Union Muslim League is on the opposition.
The same former officer said that in several cases, nexus between politicians, read CPM leaders, and police officers play important role in manipulating the cases. When they are in power, they use their contacts in top brass of the forces to achieve this. ‘Convenient transfers’ are also used. If they are out of power, then comes coercion. There are instances when houses of ‘unfriendly’  officers were attacked and belonging worth lakhs were damaged.
How do RSS men get justice is  a million dollar question under these circumstances.  n
