Children in the Freedom Struggle of Bharat a number of people sacrificed their lives but the services of only some were recognised. Unfortunately many names got covered under the dust of history. By forgetting their sacrifice and not giving them their share of respect we show our lackluster attitude towards our own birthright of freedom that we have taken for granted. Although their list is endless but some are as follows:
Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan was born in 1890 at Uttamazai (Pakistan ) in a Pathan family. He was agreat freedom fighter who had extreme faith in the Gandhian principles. He organised the institution ‘Khudai Khidmatgar” for bringing the Pathans into the mainstream of national freedom struggle. He was known as ‘Frontier Gandhi’ because of his close association with Gandhiji. He was the first man to be imprisoned for three years on the charge of sedition.
Rani Chennamma, Meera Ben and Sarla Ben popularly known as Mahatama Gandhi's two English daughters also made significant contribution to the cause of freedom. Meera Ben undertook Khadi tour throughout the country. She was arrested for entering the city of Bombay in violation of the government order. Catherine Mary Heilman or Sarla Ben as she was better known, went from village to village helping the families of political prisoners. KASTURBA GANDHI affectionately called Ba, the wife of Mohandas Gandhi, was a leader of Women's Satyagraha for which she was imprisoned. She helped her husband in the cause of Indigo workers in Champaran, Bihar and the No Tax Campaign in Kaira, Gujarat. Acharya J B Kripalani In 1917 , he associated himself with the ongoing Indian Freedom Movement. It was he who had founded the Kisan Mazdoor Dal. Deendayal Upadhyaya BEGUM HAZARAT MAHAL Surya Sen MADAM BHIKAIJI CAMA ARUNA ASAF ALI On August 8, 1942, the AICC passed the Quit India resolution at the Bombay session. The government responded by arresting the major leaders . A young Aruna Asaf Ali presided over the remainder of the session on 9 August and hoisted the Congress flag at the Gowalia Tank Maidan. This marked the commencement of the movement. Aruna was dubbed the Heroine of the 1942 movement for her bravery in the face of danger and was called ‘Grand Old Lady’ of the Independence movement in her later years. Rani Gaidinliu |
Baba Khadak Singh born in 1868 in Sialkot of Western Pakistan, he led a movement against Simon Commission throughout Punjab. He actively participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement and favoured the demand of complete independence from the British.
Acharya Vinoba Bhave actively participated in the Civil Disodedience Movement . Under the guidance of Gandhiji he started Sarvodaya Movement all over Bharat and spread the message for the upliftment of the lower castes and the weaker and backward classes in society. He started ‘Bhudan Movement’ and urged the people to donate some land to the landless.
Syama Prasad Mukherjee founded an English daily, the Nationalist, and played a crucial role in guiding students protesting against the government, on observing INA Day in 1945.The event that influenced Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s ideology was the Noakhali riots, that occured in 1946 . Occuring primarily in Chittagong division of East Bengal( now in Bangladesh), it was one of the worst genocides of Hindus, by Muslim League mobs, that involved forced conversions, arson, mass rapes and looting.
Children when we respect God for showing us the path to righteous living, how can we abandon the memories of God’s children who made the ultimate sacrifice for our today?
