Intro : On the pleasant evening of March 26, the National Capital was enthralled with rainbow colours of the Seven Sister states culture and its importance for the nation during ‘Meet DoNER Minister’ programme.

Prospering the message of national integration and unity, My Home India, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) is playing a vital role in bringing together the North-East people and rest of the nation. My Home India has organised a communicative programme, ‘Meet DoNER Minister’ portraying the rich culture and tradition of North-East. Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) was the chief guest and main speaker of the event. While addressing the meet, Minister focused that there is no difference between the Seven Sister states and Central Government has prioritise the whole of North-East for development.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that, “Modi Government is the first government who started railway lines to connect Meghalaya with other parts of the country.” He also added that in his tenure of three months as a minister, new railway line has been started in Mizoram between Dudhnoi to Mendipathar; inaugurated Unit-2 of Palatana Power Project in Tripura; ‘Ishan Uday’ Scholarship Scheme for students from the North-Eastern Region (NER) has been provided and Rs 1,000 crore has been sanctioned to establish six colleges of organic farming.
Minister told the gathering that the students coming from North-East to study in Delhi are facing problems regarding accommodation and to get away with this, his ministry has started constructing two hostels for them in Delhi. One will be at the JNU Campus and the other one at the Delhi University. And to enhance the skills of young sportsmen from North-East, Manipur Sports University will be opened soon. Considering the situation of North-East people in Delhi, his ministry has also launched an emergency helpline in Delhi. Dr Jitendra Singh said the he will soon present a proposal to Central Government for Guwahati Airport so that people do not have to opt for chartered planes and helicopters to travel to other states as to avoid costly services for common people.
During the event, founder of ‘My Home India’ Sunil Deodhar has appealed the people to visit North-East and enjoy its beauty. Remembering his experiences while working in North-East, he added that, “There is a communication gap between North-East India and rest of India which has been taken as advantage by the anti-national bodies.”
The programme mesmerised the evening with beautiful culture and ethnicity of North-East. Folklores were performed by the young performers from North-East at the meet.                                                                    —Bureau Report
