Almost all the top leaders of the banned Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT), which is waging a war against the government for an Autonomous Karbi State carving out of Assam, were apprehended by the security forces. The Army's Red Horn Division in association with Assam Police personnel nabbed more than 15 top hardcore KPLT rebels from Karbi Anglong district in the second week of February 2015.
The security forces succeeded in arresting KPLT’s self-styled Chairman Jing Hanse alias Dondri Kramsa, commander in chief Sunder Dera, deputy c-in-c Danger Ingti, finance secretary Birton Timung alias Rock, auditor Hemai Singh Kro with others from their hide outs in various parts of the hills district of Assam. The busting of the hideout also resulted in massive recoveries of arms, ammunition and various other warlike stores that included UMG, AK series rifles, pistols, grenades, thousand rounds of bullets etc.
The KPLT, which was earlier introduced as anti-talk faction of Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front, surfaced in January 2011 with around 25 cadres. Later it could increase the number of cadres up to one hundred, where 60 KPLT militants went for training in Nagaland-Burma border areas.
The security forces have declared it as a successful on going anti-terrorist operation in North-East India till date. The massive combing operation against the outlawed militant outfits started soon after the massacre of over 70 Adivasi prople on 23 December 2014 in Assam by the rebels belonged to the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (IK Songbiit faction). The Narendra Modi led government in New Delhi earlier made it clear that there would be no talks with the armed outfits which had indulged in continued violence.
