Readers’ Forum: UN listens to the advice of Narendra Modi

It is heartening to note that the UN General Assembly has approved by consensus a resolution declaring June 21 as a day to commemorate yoga. The world community has recognised the importance and greatness of this form of meditation. This will help to popularise other great practices of Ancient Bharat. UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon has rightly said that the International Day of yoga would bring attention to yoga’s holistic benefits. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be congratulated for his suggestion to the world community to adopt an International Yoga Day , during his speech to the UN General Assembly. His critics had then ridiculed him. This day is the result of efforts of innumerable yoga teachers to popularise yoga globally. Yoga guru BKS Iyengar did it during his lifetime, and Baba Ramdev and others are doing it now.

This refers to Union Minister for Defence Manohar Parrikar’s remark that Pakistan must be dealt firmly. And it is not just Shri Parrikar—before him ‘Shri Jaitley too used the right language and so did Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi . It is important to project a united front on the issue. I also liked the stern statement that the Union Minister has given on Pakistan. In fact there is no reason to go soft on Pakistan when they are repeatedly involved in terrorist activities against Bharat. It is time we restore decency and self-respect in ourselves as a nation , at least for the sake of our brave soldiers.

Forgive Forget Periscope

(Organiser, 11.1.2015); Shri Satish C Bhatnagar has given good examples of how Hindus forget the killings and cruelties committed against them in the article titled ‘Forgive Forget Periscope’ in Organiser. Exactly this is the reason that no one bothers about Hindus. The biggest example of forgetting and forgiving, about which no body talks is that Muslims of India created their separate homeland – Pakistan in 1947, after great bloodshed and rapes. The same thing they did in East Pakistan in 1971. But in this truncated Bharat, Gandhi, Nehru, Patel etc. gave constitutionally special rights and privileges to the Muslims. Only the Sikh community forced the Nehru government for complete exchange of population between East Punjab and West Punjab and an agreement to this effect was signed between India and Pakistan at Lahore on September 5th, 1947. Master Tara Singh, the undisputed Sikh leader, ensured its implementation in spite of hindrances created by Gandhi. I am sure that if there were 10-15 per cent Sikhs, spread through out Bharat, they would have forced complete exchange of population at all Bharat level. The pity is that people who did treachery towards Bharat are worshipped by the Hindus.
