Readers’ Forum: How did Hinduism Change the West?

(Organiser, 11.1.2015);This refers to the article ‘How did Hinduism Change the West’ in Organiser. Hinduism has been changing the west in the same way as Christianity is changing the east. The only difference is that by aping the west we are losing our culture. When Nalanda University was burnt, out of a total 1,213 scriptures of Vedas, only 13 have remained with us, the rest were either burnt or were looted and taken to west. Now they are reaping the benefits of those Vedas. But what is happening in India is exactly the reverse. Western culture is influencing us brutally and deteriorating our society and culture. And we are foolishly ignoring and abandoning our rich culture and heritage. One day it will so happen that West will become ancient India and East will become ancient West.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi should be complemented for allaying the apprehensions of the railway workers on the issue of privatisation .As he has indicated , foreign direct investment will come only in certain key areas because public funds have other priority sectors like health and education . However Indian Railways badly need funds to chug on , and there is no harm if private players are allowed to have some say.

Killings in the name of Allah

(Organiser,28.12.2014); There is no doubt, that everybody is shocked over the killing of 132 school children, by the Taliban, in Peshwar on December 16, 2014, as mentioned in ‘Killings in the name of Allah’ in Organiser. In fact the entire history of Islam is full of such events. It was on December 25, 1988, that I met Prof. Balraj Madhok. During the discussion, he told me a historical event which was narrated to him by the Head of the Department of History in Kabul University, during his tour to Afghanistan. They were discussing about Hindu Kush Mountains, situated in North Afghanistan. In Persian Kush means slaughter. That Afghan historian told Shri Madhok that Taimur the Lame, after plundering and killing Hindus, took with him thousands of Hindus as slaves. When Taimur reached these mountains his Generals told him that there was no food and water to feed the slaves. Taimur ordered all of them to be slaughtered. It may be added that in Islamic tradition and culture, cruelty is considered as bravery which entitles them a place in heaven and Timur is revered as a hero of Islam. We must understand, that killings of children in Peshwar is not going to change the terrorist attitude of Pakistan towards India.
