Poojaneeya Mahant Yogi Avaidyanathji?

A Long Time Pillar of Ram Temple is no More?

Former BJP MP Poojaneeya Mahant Yogi Avaidyanathji , Head of Gorakshpur (Gorakhpur) Dharma Peeth and a long time pillar of Ram Temple movement died following prolonged illness in Gorakhpur on 12.9.2014. He was 95. Paying floral tribute to him , the VHP International Working President, Dr Pravin Togadia said, “Param Poojaneeya Mahant Yogi Avaidyanathji has been an inspiration of lakhs of people like me. When not many were coming ahead to protect Hindu Dharma from various socio-political attacks, Mahantji stood strong like a rock behind Hindus. He was the 1st President of the ‘Dharmasthaan Mukti Yagna Samiti’ established by the Dharmasamsad in Delhi in 1984. This Committee was established to free Kashi, Mathura and Ayodhya temples from the invaders’ encroachment. Mahantji, while leading Gorakshnath Mutt to today’s glory, also stood for Samarasta (Cohesive Society) insisting and emphasising on eradicating untouchability from Bharat. I met him many times and whenever we met, I learnt a new dimension of the aspects I knew. He had a mother’s love in his heart and a warrior’s fire in his belly. Bharat will miss him; Hindus will miss him. The real tribute to Poojaneeya Mahant Yogi Avaidyanathji would be to build Bhagwan Sri Ram’s grand temple at Ayodhya at the earliest and to join in the Samarasta Movement to create a cohesive Bharat, safe for all Hindus as ONE.”
Avaidyanathji was elected MLA from Maniram Assembly segment five times – 1962, 1967, 1969, 1974 and 1977. He was elected Lok Sabha Member from Gorakhpur as an Independent candidate in 1970 and won again in 1989 as candidate of Hindu Mahasabha. He was elected MP from the same seat in 1991 and 1996 as BJP nominee.
Mahant Adityanath took deekhsha from Avaidyanathji in February 1994 and now has been declared as his successor.
