Darul Uloom welcomes SC verdict?
Premier Islamic institution, Darul Uloom, Deoband, welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict terming fatwas and Shariat Courts as illegal. However, it claimed the court’s denial to ban fatwas its victory. Talking to Organiser in Deoband, Darul Uloom’s PRO Ashif Usmani said the verdicts of Darul Ifta (the institution, which issues fatwas) and Darul Qaza (Islamic Court) are not mandatory for anyone and neither are they forcefully imposed. “Fatwa is not an order. It is just an advice and that too it depends upon the party to accept or reject it,” Usmani said.
However, Darul Qaza has been closed in Darul Uloom some time back, the issuance of fatwas still continues. About Darul Qaza, Mohatmim of Darul Uloom Abdul Qasim Naumani Banarasi, who is a noted Islamic scholar, claims the decisions of the Shariat Courts are delivered in the light of Indian law. Majority of the matters settled in such courts are related to family disputes. “In a way both Darul Qaza and Darul Ifta try to lower the burden of Indian judiciary by resolving the disputes outside court and the system should not be questioned at all,” he said. n?
