An emergency meeting was called by the Bhartiya Awam Party (Rashtriya) on May 30 in Lallapura, Varanasi to discuss Article 370 with intellects. Dr O P Kejriwal, Former Central Information Commissioner and Historian, said, “During the time of Independence, the biggest mistake was to agree for Partition and the blunder was to invoke Article 370 in J&K. It needs to be seriously discussed and people of the State should initiate to terminate this Article.”
Ashok Sehgal, Advocate, Supreme Court of India said, “BAP will challenge the Article in the Supreme Court. Article 370 has been regularised in the State just to make Kashmiris slave. It has been made to benefit Pakistan indirectly.”
On May 31, Jammu Kashmir Jagriti Manch requested Central Government to terminate this Article in J&K. Also, expressing their anger on the statement of Omar, they burnt his effigy at Kargil Chowk in Patna, Bihar.
Maulana Suheb Kasmi of Jamat Ulema Hind has sent a legal notice to Omar Abdullah for his controversial statement through his lawyer, Shiraz Qureshi. Kasmi has asked Omar to revert back and apologise for his statement within three days after receiving the notice or else he will file a petition in the court.
