Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad felicitated with SR Jindal Prize 2012
BHARAT Lok Shiksha Parishad, the body that runs thousands of single teacher schools across the country, has been felicitated with SR Jaindal Prize 2012 for Peace, Social Harmony & Social Development. The Prize consists of a memento, citation and the cash prize of Rs one crore. The Prize was presented at a function in New Delhi on December 3. Chairman of the Parishad Shri Satyanarain Bandhu received the award from former Chief Justice of India Shri RC Lahoti and Sri Sri Ravishakar of Art of Living.
The Lok Shiksha Parishad was selected for the Award by a jury headed by former Chief Justice of India Shri RC Lahoti. “Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad is committed to improve literacy in the areas, which are unreached and have population of more than 40 million in the country. Their efforts have created awareness and interest for education. Through 38,000 non-formal ‘single teacher schools’ under the ‘Ekal Abhiyan’ they are providing education to 12 lakh children in most remote, un-served and neglected hamlets of rural and tribal India. The emphasis is not only on literacy but also on social harmony and all-round social development by creating awareness on prohibition, sanitation, health, adult education, empowerment, organic cultivation and improved agriculture practices. With their intervention, the Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad is preparing the youth in the remote areas of the country to join the mainstream to contribute towards nation building,” said the memento presented to the Parishad along with the Prize.
