“The anti-Emergency movement gave birth to a journalist. He never studied journalism as a student. But his response to the situations, social challenges at his time made him a better journalist, writer and later an editor. His is Du Gu Lakshman, who carved his own sculpture,” said RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale in Bengaluru on August 1. He was addressing a selected gathering at Rashtrotthan Parishat in a function organised to felicitate writer-editor Shri Du Gu Lakshman, who turned 60 recently. The function was organised by Vishwa Samvada Kendra, Karnataka.
Shri Hosabale and Shri Lakshman were close associates during the anti-Emergency movement and both of them along with the late HV Seshadri, KS Nagaraj penned down the memories of anti-Emergency movement in a book, Bhugilu.
Shri Arekere Jayaram, former chief of The Hindu, Bengaluru, expressed his concerns on the declining values in contemporary journalism. He said, “Working in an organisation-institute for almost three decades shows the institutional commitment. This is the need of the hour in journalism that professional ethics and social commitments should take first priority.”
Shri N Krishnappa, senior RSS Pracharak, shared his thoughts on Shri Lakshman’s writings, commitment to the media house, Hosadigantha, he represented. He wished Shri Lakshman should live for another 60 years to propagate the Sangh ideology through journalism. Shri Du Gu Lakshman was felicitated by Dattatreya Hosabale, Shri N Krishnappa and Shri Arekere Jayaram.
After receiving the felicitation Shri Lakshman said he would attribute all the credit to RSS. Senior RSS functionaries including Shri Mai Cha Jayadev, Shri Chandrashekhar Bhandari, Shri V Nagaraj, Shri Mukunda, Shri Sudhir, Shri Tippeswamy, Prof BV Sridhar Swamy, Sridhar Sagar, Shri AS Nirmal Kumar, Shri YK Raghavendra Rao, Shri KS Nagaraj and many top office bearers of Sangh associated organisations and like-minded journalists were also present on the occasion.
