Veteran Sangh Pracharak and founder of the Sanskar Bharati Shri Yogendraji, who is popularly known as Baba Yogendraji, has been selected for 23rd Dr Hedgewar Pragya Samman for the year 2012. The Samman will be presented at a function to be held in Kolkata on April 29. Instituted by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya in 1989, the Samman consists of Rs 51,000, a citation and a memento.
Born on January 7, 1924 in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogendraji came in the contact of Nanaji Deshmukh and after completing his education he became a Sangh Pracharak in 1945. He expanded the Sangh work in Gorakhpur, Prayag, Bareilly, Badayun, Sitapur, etc. After the Partition he prepared an exhibition on this topic which basically exhibited the hidden artist in Yogendraji. After that he prepared many exhibitions including Shivaji, Dharmaganga, Janata ki tukar, Jalata Kashmir, Sankat me Gomata, 1857 ke swatantrata sangram ki amar gatha, Maa ki pukar, etc. All these exhibitions basically generated nationalist feeling among the countrymen. Later, under his leadership the Sanskar Bharati was formed in 1981 which is now a leading organisation of the artists. Yogendraji who is 85, is still active like any other young activist.
