How the Congress won in Manipur?
Jagdamba Mall?
Manipur is a tiny State sharing the international border with Myanmar. Metiei community is regarded as staunch Vaishnav Hindu group with its rich sanskriti, sanskar and its emotional attachment with Bharatiya Itihas and Vedic literature. They guard the international boundary with ever turbulent Myanmar. From last three decades, these Meitei Hindus are the immediate target of Naga terrorist organisation, Naga Church and Naga political leaders who try to weaken Meiteis by destroying their dharma, sanskriti, history, literature and their language as well.
A large chunk of Naga population live in four hill districts of Manipur whose major section has converted to Christianity, many youths of whom are the hard-core and blood-thirsty armed cadre of NSCN (IM). These Christian Nagas do not see eye to eye to Hindu Meiteis and Church is the master instigator. Because of this fact this syndicate is in privileged position to attack Meiteis. The attacker and aggressive Nagas are helped by international forces like World Council of Church (WCC), World Vision (WV), Baptist World Alliance (BWA), Billy Graham Missionary Foundation, World Missionary Assistance Plan, USAID, Amnesty International and Geneva Call, the Carter Foundation, Naga America Foundation and scores of more Church sponsored foreign funded NGOs with its headquarters in USA and Britain but branches in Nagaland and Manipur. Meiteis find themselves alone and isolated since the greater Hindu Samaj in mainland Bharatvarsh do not show any solidarity and sympathy with Meitei brothers. Now, Meitei baiter Christian Nagas are trying to weaken Meitei samaj from within through politics in addition to missionary menace and conversion crusade accompanied with inquisition. The pseudo-secular government of Manipur and Delhi did not show any concern to such plight and plunders of Meities in particular and whole non-Naga Manipuris in general. It would be wrong to blame all Nagas because there are patriotic Nagas like Prof. Gangmumei Kamei, Dr. S.C. Jamir, Reishang Keishing and many more but their voices have been ignored by Delhi.
In the recent Assembly election of Manipur held on 28th January 2012, the nexus of Naga Church, NSCN(IM), leader of Naga People’s Front (NPF) and foreign funded Naga NGOs active in Nagaland and Manipur both were found seriously engaged to ensure that their sponsored candidates win in the election, NPF leader and Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, fielded 12 candidates in four hill districts – (i) Senapati (ii) Ukhurul (iii) Tamenglong (iv) Chandel and mobilised crores of rupees for electioneering in Manipur.
NSCN(IM) had completely hijacked Nagaland Assembly election held in the year 2003 to ensure the sure defeat of Congress headed by Lokshree Dr. S. Chubatoshi Jamir, then Chief Minister of Nagaland. Muivah also ensured the definite victory of Naga People’s Front (NPF) led by Shri Neiphiu Rio who was Home Minister in Jamir’s ministry. S.C. Jamir was on the top of NSCN (IM)’s hit list. Jamir was fatally attacked four times by NSCN(IM) armed cadres and he was almost finished when his body was riddled with AK-47 bullets in an attack in Nagaland House New Delhi but some how, the doctors of AIIMS, New Delhi saved him. In an another deadly ambush, NSCN (IM) exploded fourteen powerful bombs on the convoy of Shri Jamir planted on NH-39 between Piphema and Medziphema. Here also, Jamir escaped unhurt but one of his security forces was killed and many received bullet injuries. Shri Jamir was dead against the secessionist demands of Muivah and NSCN (IM). Jamir’s 16 page booklet-Bedrock of Naga Society punctured Muivah’s anti-national movement. Jamir incurred Muivah’s wrath because of his nationalist and pro-Indian stand. When election to Nagaland Assembly was announced in 2003, it provided golden opportunity to Muivah and NSCN (IM) to defeat invincible Dr. S. Chubatoshi Jamir. NSCN (IM) scattered and deputed its hard-core armed cadres in every nook and corner of Nagaland and directed the helpless voters to vote only to NPF and not to Congress led by Shri Jamir. The pastor and missionaries of Nagaland Baptist Council of Churches (NBCC) and many Catholic priests were campaigning and canvassing for NPF candidates under the protective cover of blood-thirsty NSCN (IM) cadres. Unfortunately, BJP had entered into alliance called Democratic Alliance of Nagaland,DAN, with this NPF even after tough resistance from Pou NC Zeliang. As a result Jamir lost the majority and DAN formed the Government. BJP with its seven MLAs also joined the Neiphiu Rio ministry. Thereafter, NSCN-IM had a heyday in and around Nagaland. Senior leader LK Advani declared in BJP`s Mumbai Adhivesan that BJP had created an unprecedented history in Nagaland by winning seven MLAs. This was an absolute wrong assessment. Because of this and many more blunders BJP is no where stand in Nagaland, Manipur and whole of Northeast region.
NSCN (IM) adopted same strategy this time in Manipur during its assembly election held on 28th January this year. This time, Okaram Ibobi Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur was Muivah’s sworn enemy and his prime target. Ibobi Singh had shocked Muivah by not allowing him to even touch the boundary of Manipur in May last year (2011) when Muivah guarded by hard-core armed cadres and escorted by his trusted lieutenants tried to force-enter into Manipur to visit Somdal-his native village in Ukhurul district of Manipur. Earlier on several occasions, Ibobi Singh had successfully humbled down Muivah and his NSCN (IM). Ibobi Singh very tactfully and wisely handled even 120 days economic blockade imposed jointly by Naga Church, NSCN (IM), United Naga Council (UNC) of Manipur and its youth wing All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on NH-39 (Guwahati-Dimapur-Imphal) and NH-53 (Guwahati-Silchar-Imphal) – the two arteries of Manipur in the middle of last year (2011). United Naga Council (UNC) of Manipur acts as the frontal overground wing of NSCN (IM). This UNC had given an injunction that all Naga voters should not and must not vote for Congress to ensure the defeat of Congress and dethroning of Ibobi Singh whom NSCN (IM) considers as the enemy number one. Neiphiu Rio collected crores of rupees from Nagaland and invested on electioneering of his 12 NPF candidates. Church pastors and Christian missionaries were openly canvassing and campaigning to achieve twin objectives – (i) to dethrone and defeat Ibobi Singh by pushing his party to pavilion and (ii) to ensure the victory of all the 12 NPF candidates and other Church sponsored candidates in different regional political parties. NSCN (IM) in league with several other militant secessionist organizations of Manipur, Church organizations and foreign funded NGOs managed to target Ibobi’s candidates. UNC was giving cover to all these hostile and subversive activities. The Congress candidates were prevented from campaigning. Even Shri Gaikhangam-a Rongmei Naga and State President of Congress in the state and his entourage were attacked by NSCN(IM) guerillas, several bombs were exploded, mines were planted and gun-trotting scenes were enacted by NSCN(IM) cadres and its allies. In these blood-letting games, dozens of innocent civilians were killed. With a view to meet the challenge thrown by armed militants and to conduct the election process peacefully without any fear from any corner, the Central Govt. had landed 42,000 security personnel to maintain the law and order.
Ibobi Singh had not done any thing tangible for the economic development of Manipur. Manipur is far-behind of the other states of NE. Not even Centrally sponsored schemes could be implementing but the money was embezzled. Several scams were unearthed, law and order was collapsed. Militants were running a parallel government. Even then, Ibobi Singh could win the election with thumping majority, Why?
By gaining 12 more seats than last assembly (2011) he touched the mark of 42 this time. There were only 30 Congress MLAs in outgoing ministry in the house of 60. The unity and integrity of the state overshadowed the development agenda. The voters of Naga dominated 4 hill districts- Senapati, Tamenglong, Chandel and Ukhurul including two-third of Naga voters are not ready to accept the division of Manipur while NSCN (IM), its frontal youth wing – All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), Church and Naga People’s Front of Nagaland headed by Nagaland Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio jointly and unitedly spearheaded a constant and continuous violent movement for merging all the four hill districts into Greater Nagaland. To sneak into Manipur politics and influence the Manipur Assembly NPF fielded 12 candidates in the Naga majority areas of above 4 hill districts. The NSCN(IM), Church, NPF and foreign funded NGOs and terrorist organizations virtually hijacked the whole election process to defeat Ibobi Singh. Reverends, pastors, and missionaries were seen vigorously campaigning for NPF candidates under protective cover of NSCN (IM) cadres. The uncertain and turbulent situation gave a clear message to Manipur voters that if a strong Chief Minister with strong and stable government fails to emerge after assembly election, the Manipur would surely be divided. On the other hand, Ibobi Singh proved his courage and resolute stand to defend the state by not allowing Muivah and his lieutenants even to touch the boundary of Manipur in May 2011 when Muivah tried to force-enter into the state to visit his Somdal village in Ukhurul district, by creating Sadar Hills District out of Senapati even after tough opposition of Nagas and NSCN(IM) and by humbling down Muivah and his armed cadres at every available opportunity.?
