The prestigious Vivekananda Sewa Samman, presented by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya was conferred on renowned social worker Sri Sukumar Roychaudhury in Kolkata on February 12. RSS Akhil Bharatiya Bauddhik Pramukh Sri Bhagaiah was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his speech, Sri Bhagaiah said Sri Sukumar Roychaudhury is the living example of Swami Vivekananda's ideals of applying spiritualism in one’s life and actions. Swami Vivekananda stressed on service to the poorest and the weakest. He preferred human values, love and compassion over material and monitory gains. Likewise, Sri Roychaudhury dedicated his entire life to uphold these high ideals.
Sri Sukumar Roychaudhury works among Janjatis and downtrodden. He has initiated many literacy and medical support campaigns in Pashchimbanga. Based at Buniyadpur in South Dinajpur Shri Roy works for the uplift of tribal under the banner of Borail Kalyan Asram.
Initiated in 1987, some of the earlier recipients of the Samman included Shri H Anderson Mavri from Meghalaya, Shri Anna Hazare from Maharashtra, Shri Dilip Singh Judeo from Chhattisgarh, Shri NC Zeliang from Nagaland and Shri Muralbhai from Pashchimbanga.
