VETERAN RSS Pracharak, thinker, writer, social worker Dr Upendra Shenoy passed away on May 9 in Bengaluru. He was suffering from kidney illness.
Dr Shenoy had deep knowledge in multiple fields. He was an expert in medicine, education, philosophy and agriculture among other things. He was responding to important issues of current affairs with his scholarly analysis.
Born in 1937 at Sringeri of Chikmagalur district, Dr Shenoy completed his study of Ayurvedic Medical Science from Mysore. He was a practicing physician for some time. He also acquired specialisation in homeopathy medicine. He dedicated himself to the social service by becoming a RSS Pracharak in 1973.
Dr Shenoy was one of the founder members of ‘Prajna Prava’, an intellectual forum of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at national level. He also pioneered other organisations including Krishi Prayog Parivar, an organisation dedicated to promote sustainable agricultural practices and simultaneously making farmers economically independent. He initiated Swadeshi Science Movement at national level, now is transformed to Vijnan Bharati. His thought on rural development gave birth to a new forum Gram Vikas that works towards the betterment of rural life at all levels. He prepared a ground for child education under a banner of Shishu Shikshan. Vyaktitva Vikas Andolan, a movement to promote personality development among common citizens, was one of his memorable contribution. He was also one of the founder members of Arogya Bharati. He founded the Rashtrothan Research and Communication Centre (RRCC) for research and intellectual activities in Bengaluru.
