News Analysis RSS warns against cynical manipulation of terror investigation

THE RSS has taken strong exception to the Government and the ruling party’s malicious campaign to malign the patriotic organisation that has been serving the nation with dedication for the past eight decades by falsely implicating it with certain terror related incidents.

It has thrown down gauntlet to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to come clean on the fake “Hindu terror” and government agencies insidious attempts to link the Sangh with elements accused of violent activities. In a soberly worded yet hard hitting communication to the Prime Minister, Sarkaryavah Suresh (Bhaiyaji) Joshi has categorically accused the Government of “distorting, perverting and politicising” investigations into the bomb blasts at Malegaon, Ajmer and Hyderabad to cast false aspersions on the Sangh.

Isn’t it intriguing that the Government agencies that had collected crucial evidence about the criminal conspiracy hatched by Pandey and Prohit to kill RSS leaders are trying to club these persons with the RSS – their victim? More intriguing is the stark reality that Maharasthra ATS didn’t register even an FIR against these persons, what to talk about professionally investigating the case to bring them to justice. Further, despite the fact the ATS was in possession of this explosive, critical and specific evidence of the conspiracy to eliminate RSS leaders, it told the Bombay High Court in July 2010 that there was no “specific” information and therefore no further action was required in the matter except to wait for the outcome of the pending trial in Malegaon blast. The conspiracy to kill a top national leader is an extremely serious matter that had nothing to do with the progress of the trial in Malegaon blast. It is for the Congress-led Government of Maharashtra to explain why it misled the High Court. Selective leaks by Government agencies are politically motivated and are done with two critical purposes. Firstly, the attempt is to divert public attention from countless scams that have hugely damaged the reputation of the Government and the ruling party. Secondly, it is a deep-rooted conspiracy to defame and tarnish the image of the RSS that has a huge credibility among patriotic citizens as an organisation committed to national integration and social harmony. The ruling party’s calculation is that by falsely incriminating the RSS in terror-related incidents, it would hurt and demoralise the BJP that is, as of now, on the upswing.

Most of the selective leaks by government agencies are “confessions and admissions” of those in their custody. Everyone knows that investigative agencies use third degree methods to force accused in their custody to sing as per the wishes of their political masters. In any case, these are inadmissible as evidence and the sole purpose of these leaks is to confuse public opinion and interfere with the judicial process. The purported judicial confession by Swami Aseemananda, who is hugely revered by tribals for his services to the deprived sections of the society are mere hearsay. His testimony that Sunil Joshi – since dead – had boasted to him that his men had carried out Samjhauta Express blast and that even the Swami had discounted the claim is no evidence in law. In sharp contrast to this confession, SIMI boss Safdar Nagauri had confessed before Indian agencies that he had carried out the outrage with the help of Pakistani terrorists. Further, the issue has international dimensions. The US investigators claimed on the basis of inputs from their sources in Pakistan that LeT squad under Aref Usmani had carried out the blast. It was based on these findings that UN Security Council branded LeT a terrorist outfit and banned it. Will Aseemananda’s purported confession overturn these conclusions? Congress-led Government’s intentions are suspect. It wants to drag Hindu nationalists into the case even at the cost of huge international embarrassment. This is a measure of cynical politicisation of criminal investigation in India. The Congress Government is doing its worst to draw political mileage from the Swami’s confession and using it as a prop to its “Hindu terror” charge. Since the scion of the dynasty is known to have said that Hindu extremism was more dangerous than Jehadi terror, the appointed Prime Minister is helpless. For the Government and the ruling party, “Hindu terror” constitutes a parallel narrative to the Empire of Corruption presided over by the “honest” Prime Minister.

The Government must gracefully accept the RSS demand for a thorough and independent investigation into the conspiracy to assassinate Shri Mohan Bhagwat and the government agencies dubious attempt to mislead the courts about the seriousness of the crime. Every Government agency – CBI, ATS and National Investigation Authority – has lost credibility. The only organ of the state that still enjoys public respect and credibility is the Supreme Court of India. Let the Government request the highly respected Chief Justice of India to identify a sitting judge of the Court to hold an enquiry into the cynical manipulation of criminal investigation by the Government. It is time Dr. Manmohan Singh comes out of the shadow of Sonia Gandhi and act as per his conscience. If he is unable to resist dynasty’s unethical pressure, he should quit to salvage his honour, or whatever is left of it.
