RASHTRA Sevika Samiti has started a nationwide campaign to pay tribute to Bhagini Nivedita. During this campaign, the Samiti has decided to visit all the schools of the country and provide a booklet about the life and works of the great disciple of Swami Vivekananda to all the students. Apart from it, some special conventions will also be conducted all over the country to propagate the views of Bhagini Nivedita on education, sewa and swadeshi.
Enumerating the details of the campaign, Pramukh Sanchalika of the Samiti, Pramilatai Medhe, pointed out in New Delhi on December 23 that the campaign has already begun in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Uttarakhand. A big function was held in Darjeeling on October 30 on the samadhi of Bhagini Nivedita. She said special functions would be organised at all the places which are associated with Bhagini Nivedita. She said a big concluding ceremony would be conducted in Kolkata in October 2011. It is to be noted that Bhagini Nivedita had passed away on October 13, 1910 and this is the 100th anniversary year of her death.
Pramilatai Medhe appealed to the government to make immediate arrangements for proper maintenance of the samadhi of Bhagini Nivedita and develop it as a tourist spot. She also urged the government to install a magnificent statue of Bhagini Nivedita at her samadhi or grant permission to the Samiti to do it. She said the house where Bhagini Nivedita breathed her last should be declared as national heritage and proper arrangements should be made for its maintenance. She urged the government to release a postal stamp or a coin in her memory and also install her statute or a painting in the Lok Sabha premises. (FOC)
