Prof. Milind Marathe and Shri Umesh Dutt Sharma elected ABVP president and general secretary respectively

PROF. Milind Marathe and Shri Umesh Dutt Sharma were elected national president and general secretary of the ABVP respectively on December 15. The announcement to this effect was made by the Election Officer Dr Shirish Kulkarni at the ABVP central office in Mumbai. The term of both the newly elected office-bearers will be for one year. They will take charge of their responsibilities at 56th National Conference scheduled to begin from December 25 in Bengaluru.

Prof. Marathe works as Assistant Professor in Department of Electronics Engineering with K J Somaiya College of Engineering, Mumbai. He is also known for deep study on Higher Educational Policies and has been active in the ABVP since 1979. He has presented various papers on Education at different national seminars and has also visited Afghanistan as a member of Indian Voluntary Organisation’s ‘Goodwill Mission’ in May 2002. He was elected national president for the first time in 2008. It will be his third term. Shri Umesh Dutt Sharma is basically from Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and has been active in ABVP since 1995. Since 2000 he is working as a full time worker after passing his M.Com, LLB from Himachal Pradesh University. He has held various responsibilities like Vibhag organising secretary, State secretary of Himachal Pradesh and presently holding responsibility as national secretary since 2009 simultaneously with the responsibility of the State organising secretary. He successfully led to many national and state level agitations against commercialisation and corruption in the field of education and other issues like unemployment. (FOC)
