“THE feeling of oneness encourages us to serve others. This is a special characteristic of the Hindu culture. Unlike the consumerist thinking of the West, the Indian thinking teaches sacrifice,” said former RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri KS Sudarshan. He was presenting the 24th Vivekananda Sewa Samman to Shri Ashish Gautam of Divya Prem Sewa Mission, Haridar, in Kolkata on January 24. The Samman was presented by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya. The Samman consists of a shawl, a coconut, a citation and a cheque of Rs 51,000.
Dividing men in four categories—nara, narapishach, narpashu and narottam, Shri Sudarshan described Shri Ashish Gautam as narottam. Citing Swami Vivekananda he said the Hindu thinking has to be popularised for the welfare of the whole world.
Panchjanya editor Shri Baldevbhai Sharma, who attended the function as chief speaker, praised the service mind of Shri Ashish Gautam. He said service is done with a sense of gratefulness and not with vanity. He hoped the feeling of service would spread everywhere through Shri Ashish Gautam.
Receiving the Samman, Shri Ashish Gautam said those who serve the needy should never have the feeling of pride. Shri Jugalkishor Jaitahlia presided over the function.
