In a statement issued in New Delhi by BMS general secretary Shri K Lakshma Reddy described the general budget as anti-labour, anti-poor and pro-corporate sector and favouring rich people. “The government has taken care of the corporate sector and for them there is no corporate tax whereas for service class only Rs 10,000 increase in Income Tax limit. For NREGA, the Finance Minister proposed to increase Rs. 100 whereas the BMS had demanded Rs.150 per day,” he said. He further said for unorganised sector also no specific allocation has been made in the budget. “The Finance Minister has also not mentioned any proposal for unemployment problem. Nothing has been mentioned about the workers and farmers facing problems on account of global financial crises. The BMS also strongly opposes the policy of disinvestments for public sectors like banks, insurance and PSUs in which they want to increase disinvestments up to 49 per cent,” the statement added.
