This columnist has never hidden his secular views, or his respect for the three great faiths that originated in the region around Jerusalem, Christianity, Islam and Judaism. The only other part of the globe that has achieved a similar feat is India, the home of Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism?four great faiths. In contrast to such a tradition, the Pramod Mutaliks are a blot on the culture of India, helping the ISI in its tasks, and this columnist knows that the people of India will reject those seeking to separate Muslims and Christians from their Hindu brothers and sisters through the politics of hate and fear. Which is why he is saddened by the activities of this VVIP. But he has hope that someday, journalists in India will no longer take the path of India'sstate-approved historians?who seem to have replaced biography with iconography?but will ensure that the people of this country be given as much information about their leaders as that which the population of the US and the UK know about their own leaders. Only such transparency can ensure the victory of democracy in our ancient land.
