Bharatiya Maz-door Sangh (BMS) conducted a weeklong nationwide agitation against price-rise. The agitation began on May 15 and concluded on May 21. During this week the BMS activists staged demonstrations and organised dharnas in prominent cities and district headquarters of all the states. The decision to this effect had been taken at the Central Executive Committee meeting of BMS held in Cuttack recently.
In Delhi the dharna was organised at 10 places in which thousands of people participated. ?The prices of essential commodities are rising unprecedented day-by-day. The rise in prices of several commodities ranged from 20 per cent to 100 per cent in the last quarter. The rise of inflation up to 7.83 per cent is perhaps the highest in recent period. The UPA Government has miserably failed to control the prices. Consequently the common man is put to much hardships and untold miseries,? said Shri Ashwini Rana, media incharge of BMS.
Shri Rana further said the Public Distribution System (PDS) is as good as non-existing since bulk of its does not reach the poor rather is diverted to market for open sale. All these failures of the UPA Government have made the life of Aam Aadmi miserable. ?BMS feels that all the measures taken by the Government, so far, are too small and half hearted. The Government must enforce total ban on forward trading in foodgrains and other essential consumer goods with iron hand.
